As part of the Ilminster Experience, Ilminster Town Council organised its annual Scarecrow Competition. There was a record number of entries plus a fun entry from the Open Spaces team of the Council “ a new member of staff”. It was great to see so many people taking part in this community event. It is hoped that the success of this years competition will lead to even more entries next year, especially with there now being more categories.
The judges were the Mayor of Ilminster Cllr Julie Fowler and Cllr Matt James. The Mayor said “The standard of scarecrows was very high and people’s creative ability was amazing. It was very hard to judge and everyone deserved a prize. However in the commercial category we judged the winner to be Ferne Animal Sanctuary with their depiction of a family of scarecrows and in the non commercial category the winner was “Mr McGregor”, the handiwork of Charlie Percival. Well done to all those who participated.” The winners will be presented with their prizes at the Town Council Meeting on 17 July 2018.
