Neighbourhood Plan

A Neighbourhood Plan is a framework developed by the community i.e. the residents and businesses of Ilminster, to guide the future development of the town. An approved Neighbourhood Plan would run alongside the policies contained in the South Somerset Local Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework.

The initial work to tell people about the concept of a Neighbourhood Plan and to establish if there is support for an Ilminster Neighbourhood Plan will be undertaken by a steering group of Town Councillors. If sufficient support is established a Neighbourhood Plan Implementation Group will be formed consisting of residents and business representatives of the Town and some members of the Town Council along with consultants with specialist knowledge of town development.

This is an opportunity for people who live and work in Ilminster to have their say in the future of the town.

Over the next few months there will be workshops held at various locations throughout the town. At these events it is hoped to spark the interest of all the residents into what a Neighbourhood Plan is and what can be done to shape the future of Ilminster. It is only with support that this type of activity can be taken forward and implemented.
