Could You Be A Councillor?

Posted on 5th September, 2017 in News

Town Councillors are local people who take an interest in what happens in their community; as they have varied backgrounds they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as community understanding to the Town Council team.

There are currently three vacancies on the Town Council so the Town Council would like to encourage local people to consider standing for office as a Councillor.

The Mayor, Councillor Val Keitch said “It is important that the Town Council is representative of the community it serves. We are not looking for people with special skills or particular experience, we need people that have a knowledge and understanding of Ilminster, a desire to work with and within the community, who have respect for others and a high degree of integrity.”

On 12 September, at 7.30pm at the Minster Rooms, Ilminster, the Mayor will be hosting an evening for local people to go along and find out about what is involved in being a councillor and how to take the first steps towards making it happen

Cllr Keitch has made the following invitation “If you would like to find out more about what a Councillor does and how you could become a Councillor please come along. The evening will be informal and you can ask any questions that you may have about being a Councillor. Don’t worry –  people attending will not be asked to sign anything other than an attendance sheet and will be able to go away and consider whether or not they would like to stand as a Councillor in the future.
