Somerset Community Foundation – Grants Available

Posted on 23rd November, 2015 in News

Somerset Community Foundation has funding available for projects working with disadvantaged people to transform lives and strengthen local communities. The next deadline for applications is 7 December 2015.

We want to support projects that:

  • Support vulnerable, isolated and lonely older people and their carers;
  • Improve life opportunities for disadvantaged children, young people and their families;

Support communities affected by rural disadvantage.

Foundation Grants

We are looking for applications from grassroots groups in local communities that clearly show the difference the project will make for local people. We particularly prioritise projects that contribute towards the three outcomes listed above and our average grant size is £1,500.

We can award grants for most types of community activity or project, including core costs, run by local organisations. We do not support national charities; animal welfare; the promotion of religion; activities that have already taken place; or those that are a statutory responsibility.

Registered charities and community groups are eligible to apply. Social enterprises (C.I.C.s) are eligible to apply for the cost of piloting activity or extending a current programme to include one of our priority groups.

The Benchmark Fund

Managed by Somerset Community Foundation, the Benchmark Fund supports local, innovative projects that focus on providing positive life opportunities for vulnerable young people and reduce crime. There is no maximum grant size but average grants are likely to be £1,000 – £1,500. Normally only one grant per year will be awarded to an organisation. The Fund supports project costs, including capital and equipment costs, but salaries and general running costs are not eligible.
